Welcome to the web site for Statistics Through Applications (STA). The NCTM urges the study of statistics in high school. Based on these recommendations, many schools now offer AP and/or a non-AP, general level, introduction to statistics course. W.H. Freeman is proud to publish Statistics Through Applications (STA) the first text written exclusively for the non-AP, general level, introduction to statistics for high school students. STA is written by Dan Yates, Daren Starnes and David Moore, the authors of the overwhelming favorite textbook for the AP Statistics course (The Practice of Statistics-TPS).

Compatible with either a one- or two-semester course, STA is the ideal alternative for juniors and seniors not going into advanced courses such as calculus, but who are interested in an introduction to the important, practical topics of statistics. The book's data analysis approach moves students away from monotonous computation to focus on the statistical thinking behind data gathering and interpretation. This approach more accurately reflects the way working statisticians contribute to our understanding of the world. It also helps students become more discerning consumers of statistics, teaching them to look closely at what numbers from surveys, election polls, and medical studies really show.
