Problem-Solving Strategy Videos – Introduction

As part of this textbook’s “Strategy & Practice” approach to problem-solving, we are offing new videos of a genetics instructor and student in an “office hours” setting solving eight key problems from the book. In the videos the instructor carefully walks the student through a four-step strategy to problem solving:

  1. Identify the questions the problem calls on you to answer
  2. Know what the data in the problem is and what it means
  3. Predict/Test possible solution/s
  4. Solve the problem once your testing confirms the answer

Created by Dr. Sue Elrod of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, they will be available on the Pierce Genetics e-book, Third Edition, which will be available in May 2008.
