Fig 1D.7 - Hydrogenic Atomic Orbitals

The radial wavefunction, R(r), the square of the radial wavefunction, R(r)2, and the radial distribution function, P(r) can be plotted for the parameters n, l, Z where n and l are quantum numbers and Z is the atomic number. See Table 1D.1 of the text.

To graph the wavefunctions enter n, l, Z and click New Plot. Up to 5 plots can be displayed at one time. The Clear button will remove all plots. To see the parameters for each plot click the Legend button. The Redraw button will refresh the graph. This is useful when the function domain (i.e., r ) has been changed. To pick off a value on the graph, move your cursor to the desired location then click. To toggle between wavefunction, wavefunction squared, and probability density click the desired radio button.
